WakeOnLan
WakeOnLan is an Android application for waking computers and network-attached devices over a local network, checking their availability, and shutting them down remotely over SSH.
The app has a modern Material You interface built with Jetpack Compose, following Material 3 with light and dark themes and dynamic colors on supported Android versions.
Features
Wake-on-LAN
- Send Wake-on-LAN magic packets with one tap.
- Manage multiple devices in one place.
- Configure each device's name, MAC address, broadcast address, and port.
- Support optional SecureOn passwords.
- Check device availability through its IP address.
- Display online, offline, and checking states.
Remote shutdown
- Shut down devices remotely over SSH.
- Authenticate with a password or an unencrypted OpenSSH private key.
- Configure the SSH address, port, username, and shutdown command.
- Test shutdown commands before using them.
- Show connection, authentication, session, and command execution progress.
- Provide detailed errors when a command fails.
Android integration
- Dynamic shortcuts for configured devices.
- Android system controls for quick access.
- Local network permission handling on Android 17 (API 37) and newer.
Backup and interface
- Export configured devices to JSON backup files.
- Import devices from existing JSON backups.
- Material 3 UI implemented with Jetpack Compose.
- Light and dark themes.
- Dynamic system colors where supported.
- Material 3 settings with Monet and predefined color palettes.
- English, German, Chinese, Spanish, Catalan, French, Japanese, and Russian translations.
- No advertising or telemetry.
Themes and editing
The Appearance settings include 16 built-in palettes:
- Monochrome

- Lichen Root
- Stellar Rust
- Mist Nectar
- Amber Fossil

To edit a device, long-press its card and then choose Edit from the overlay. A normal tap remains reserved for the Wake-on-LAN action.
Screens and design
WakeOnLan uses a clean Material You design focused on fast access to the devices you use most. The main screen provides a device list and a direct Settings screen, while device configuration is organized into general, connection, security, and status sections.
F-Droid repository
WakeOnLan is available through the SparkleBox F-Droid repository:
The repository contains the application's published F-Droid builds and can be added to compatible F-Droid clients from that website.
Development documentation
Build instructions, signing, ADB installation, release publishing, project configuration, and the technical project structure are documented in DEVELOPMENT.md.
Origin and attribution
This project is a modified and expanded version of WakeOnLan by Florianisme.
The original project provided the foundation for this application. SparkleBox has substantially redesigned the user interface and user experience and added features including SSH remote shutdown, dynamic Android shortcuts with an adaptive icon, system controls, device backups, Material 3 theming, multiple locales, and newer Android local-network support.
